Our second expert Food Blogger interview comes from Ashlyn Tucker who runs the awesome food blog Dollop of Yum. Dollop of Yum was started in 2015 to create a community for foodies, travel lovers, and fitness lovers!

Ashlyn hopes to inspire readers in the kitchen and in life.  Food has the power to invoke emotion and bring a beautiful memory to your mind and that is something Ashlyn feels is pretty amazing!

On Dollop of Yum you will find recipes for sweet treats, healthier versions of classic dishes, and an assortment of other yummy eats.  Also featured will be all of Ashlyn’s travels and tidbits here and there on fitness.

The Interview

Please introduce yourself and your blog.

My name is Ashlyn and my blog is Dollop of Yum.  Each week I post a new recipe.   All of my recipes are delicious and easy to make and many of them feature wholesome and healthy ingredients.

Why and when did you start your food blog?

I started my blog in the Spring of 2015 in pursuit of my passion.  I have always loved food and how it can bring people together.  I spent (and still spend) a lot of time reading food blogs and fell in love with the idea of one. I also frequently found myself adapting/creating delicious recipes that I felt were worth sharing.  In Fall of 2015 I became more serious about blogging and since then Dollop of Yum has seen great results.

Where did your love for cooking come from?

My love of cooking came from my family.  Homemade meals and baked goods are important to us and have this special power to bring people together and create some pretty great memories.

Where do you get your cooking inspiration from?

Anywhere and everywhere.  It could be from traveling, eating out, reading other blogs and magazines, or some random thought that popped into my head while I was trying to fall asleep at night.

Do you have a favourite chef?

There are so many great chefs out there that I look up to.  But if I had to pick I’d say pastry chef Zac Young because his work is beautiful and he is absolutely hilarious.  Also, Rachael Ray because I have admired her since I was a young child and the food she creates looks amazing.

Which is your favourite restaurant?

My favorite restaurant is The Local Eatery and Pub in Westfield, Indiana.  Everything on the menu is delicious!  Also, they focus on sourcing their ingredients locally from environmentally responsible farms.

What is your favourite/signature dish?

This is the hardest question ever for me because there are so many!  I am going to go sweet though and say the cheesecake my mom makes.  It’s a regular cheesecake base with tons of chocolate chips and an Oreo crust.  It is seriously amazing.

What has been your best foodie experience?

My best foodie experience was at the Salt Lick BBQ in Driftwood, Texas (just outside of Austin).  It is a great atmosphere and truly is the best BBQ in Texas.  To this day, it is one of the best, if not the best, meal I have ever had.

What has been your worst foodie experience?

A waiter spilled water on our table and barely apologized, oh and we had to clean up.

Do you have any hints of tips for people starting a food blog?

Stay passionate, work hard, and remember that every blog starts with zero readers.  Be a consistently active member of the blog/foodie community and results will come.
